Rubbing in – making the frame
The gemstone is inserted directly into the piece of jewelry without a separate setting being made. To do this, a recess in the shape and size of the gemstone must first be made in the piece of jewelry. The gemstone to be set is inserted there and the surrounding precious metal is pressed onto it.
One difference to the bezel setting is that when rubbed in, only a very narrow edge of precious metal overlaps the stone. This is particularly important for small gemstones - they are not covered up too much.

The rubbed version and its advantages
With a rubbed setting, the gemstone has a very good hold and is protected against any kind of damage. In addition, the piece of jewelry has a very smooth surface, which makes it very comfortable to wear.
Rubbing is often used for pieces of jewelry that are in daily use. One example is band rings , a popular variant of wedding rings.
Despite the compact setting, light can penetrate the slightly protruding crown of the gemstones, revealing their inherent sparkle.
