CUT refers to the proportions of a diamond. The more symmetrical a diamond is cut, the more light will be emitted, cultivating its renowned fire. All of our RENÉSIM First Choice diamonds have nothing below a ‘very good’ cut.

The depth of a diamond gives the ratio between its height and diameter (height:width). Larger or smaller proportions impair the brilliance of the diamond by preventing the light from reflecting perfectly.

The table percentage of a diamond gives the ratio between the table (the central top facet) of the diamond and the total diameter (table:width). Ideal table proportions bring out the brilliance of a diamond to its best effect.

Choose Your Diamond
The special feature of Fancy Diamonds
Colored diamonds - so-called fancy diamonds - are particularly rare gemstones. Most diamonds found are colorless to yellowish. Usually only one colored diamond is found for every 10,000 colorless diamonds. But they come in all color variations. Around 300 different colors have already been registered. Each of the gorgeous fancy diamonds is a completely unique wonder of nature. Only a few thousand carats of colored diamonds are found each year - in contrast to millions of carats of colorless and white diamonds.
Decisive quality criteria of colored diamonds
The most important quality criterion of a fancy diamond is its color. Both the color tone itself and the color intensity of the diamond play a decisive role. The color tone refers to the predominant color, which can also have several undertones. For example, a Bluish Green diamond is a green diamond with a blue overtone. The higher the color intensity and its luminosity, the higher the quality of the diamond. Even minimal differences in the color intensity of two diamonds can result in large price differences. An even color distribution is also essential to the beauty of a fancy diamond.
A sophisticated system developed by the GIA – the Gemological Institute of America – is used to name colors. Both the intensity (from Fancy to Fancy Intense to Fancy Deep and Fancy Vivid ) and the color tone are taken into account and specified. Examples are Fancy Intense Yellow , Fancy Deep Olive or Fancy Vivid Purplish Pink .
Further quality criteria of the Four Cs
The 4C criteria (color, cut, clarity and carat) that determine the quality of diamonds are also applied to fancy diamonds, but with a different weighting. As already mentioned, the color tone and color intensity are the most important characteristics for determining the value of a colored diamond. The cut of a fancy diamond primarily serves the function of presenting its color in the best possible light. The cutter's goal is to create the most intense color effect possible and maximum colored shine. Clarity is also not the most highly weighted criterion for the value of a colored diamond. While inclusions lead to a reduction in value in colorless diamonds, they can actually enhance the beauty of a fancy diamond. However, they must not have a negative effect on the play of color and the brilliance of the diamond.
Fancy Diamonds as an Investment
Since fancy diamonds are extremely rare and their natural resources of high-quality specimens in beautiful and intense colors are limited, they are regularly sold at auctions for record prices. Colored diamonds have been steadily increasing in value for over 20 years. Fancy diamonds are therefore also perfect as an investment - the value of colored diamonds has not fallen since their discovery.
