Prasiolite
The green amethyst
Quality factors
Color
Prasiolite is golden-green and transparent. Prasiolite with an attractive, evenly distributed color is particularly sought after.
purity
Prasiolites with high transparency and no visible inclusions are particularly valuable.
carat
Carat is a unit of measurement for the weight of a gemstone (1 carat = 0.2 grams). The weight is very important for the value of a prasiolite. However, the color, clarity and cut also determine the value.
cut
Prasiolite is often faceted because it brings out the gemstone's sparkle.

Prasiolite – natural and treated gemstones
Naturally formed prasiolite is a rarity and is found only in very few deposits.
However, the majority of gemstones available on the market are treated amethysts. If the violet gemstones are heated to temperatures of 500 degrees, their color changes. They usually take on a yellow hue, as is known from citrines. In exceptional cases, the attractive golden green that is typical of prasiolite appears.
The result of the heat treatment cannot be predicted, but the place of origin of the amethysts significantly influences the color they will take on.
