The Cullinan Diamond is a particularly prominent high-carat gem. With its original weight of 3,106.7 carats, it holds the world record as the largest rough diamond ever discovered. However, it has since been subdivided into over 100 smaller gems—the largest cut pieces have been designated Cullinan I through IX.
The world's largest cut diamond is the golden-brown shimmering Golden Jubilee , which is now among the Thai crown jewels.

The emerald is a gemstone found naturally in very large sizes. A 16,300-carat gem can be admired in the Topkapi Palace in Istanbul. However, the world's largest emerald is considered to be the 57,500-carat Theodora (Gift of God), discovered in a Brazilian mine.
One of the largest sapphires is considered the Star of India , a beautiful 563.35-carat star sapphire. This high-carat gem, now on display at the Museum of Natural History in New York, originally came from a mine in Sri Lanka.
