Brautschmuck Perle

pearl

One of the oldest pieces of jewelry of mankind

Brautschmuck Perle

overview

  • Naming : A pearl consists of nacre – an iridescent mineral that consists mostly of calcium carbonate.
  • Mineral group: Peridot belongs to the olivine group and is also known as olivine or chrysolite. The name chrysolyte is quite outdated and refers not only to peridot, but also to many other stones of a similar color.
  • Color : Pearls come in many different colors, from white to cream, gold, rose and black.
  • Cut : The shape of the pearl can range from symmetrical round to oval, teardrop-shaped to an irregular, asymmetrical shape (baroque).
  • Special feature : Pearls have been sought after and valued for centuries. In Chinese traditions, pearls have been mentioned as a precious possession of nobles and as a gift for kings and emperors since 2300 BC.

Quality factors

shine

Highly shiny pearls can have very special reflections on the surface.

form

Spherical and symmetrical, teardrop-shaped pearls are the most sought after.

surface quality

The surface quality is very important for the value. Pearls with little to no damage are the most valuable.

Color

White is the classic among pearls, but all other color nuances are equally popular.

Natural pearls and cultured pearls

It is extremely rare for pearls that are suitable for pearl jewelry in terms of shape, color and surface texture to be created in a purely natural way. This is why most pearls now come from pearl cultivation. Such cultured pearls are just as "real" pearls as natural pearls. The difference is that the foreign body in cultured pearls is intentionally implanted into the shell. The natural process of forming a pearl is thus given a little help. The formation of the pearl then proceeds in the same way with cultured pearls as with natural pearls - only the beginning of the process is different.

Special Pearls

One of the most famous pearls is the 50.56 carat "La Peregrina". This has been owned by royal families and Elizabeth Taylor. In 2011, the pearl was sold for 11.8 million dollars

Special occasions

wedding anniversary

Traditionally, pearls or jewelry with pearls are given as gifts on the 3rd and 13th wedding anniversaries.

birthstone

Pearls are considered the birthstone for June.
