The Jagersfontein Mine as namesake for the expression Jager
The name Jager is derived from the Jagersfontein Mine in South Africa, which was opened in 1888. The diamonds found there were characterized by a very pure, white color with a blue shimmer - "Finest blue white" is therefore an alternative name for Jager.
The mine where the Jager diamonds come from also produced the Excelsior diamond and the Golden Jubilee diamond , which are among the largest and most famous diamonds in the world. In total, 9.6 million carats of diamonds were found in the Jager mine, which closed in 1971.
