What is the King's Chain?
A king's chain is a necklace made of precious metal that is characterized by its smooth texture. It consists of numerous round or oval eyelets of the same size that are connected to one another by a sophisticated system.
As a rule, the king's chain is not decorated with a pendant , but can be varied and changed as desired. Due to its rough, modern design, the king's chain is equally popular with men and women.
The appearance of a king's chain is characterized by its typical braided pattern. This is created by a special manufacturing scheme of horizontally and vertically arranged eyelets.
First, two parallel eyelets are connected to two perpendicular ones. Two more eyelets are attached vertically to the resulting pair of eyelets, each of which is then folded back by 180°. This pulls the second pair of eyelets apart and forms an acute angle. A fourth pair of eyelets is then attached vertically between the second pair and the third pair of eyelets; then a complete link of the king's chain is complete. The last pair of eyelets simultaneously forms the first pair of the new chain link, which is rotated by 90° in relation to the previous one.
The result of this delicate weave is a fascinating surface structure that gives the piece of jewelry its special charm.
In addition to the classic form of the king's chain, there are now also variations that are given their own character by using eyelets of different sizes or shapes and by combining different precious metals .
