What is a spring ring?
A spring ring is a very common and secure clasp for jewelry. It has been used since the beginning of the 20th century and is particularly suitable for necklaces and bracelets . An alternative and common name for the clasp is a round snap fastener.
The spring ring and its variants
A spring ring usually consists of a hollow tube in the shape of a circle that is open in one place. In this hollow tube there is a latch that is closed by an integrated spring. The spring ring can be opened and closed with the help of a small lever.
In another variant, only half of the circle is formed by a hollow tube. The circle is closed by a fixed and a movable latch. A spring incorporated into the hollow tube ensures that the movable latch is pressed against the fixed latch. The lock can be opened using a lever.
A small eyelet made of precious metal is attached to the spring ring, through which the spring ring can be connected to the end of a chain.
A clasp matching the design of the piece of jewelry
The look of the spring ring should harmonize with the design of the piece of jewelry. For delicate necklaces , a small and discreet clasp is very nice. For some delicate pieces of jewelry, such as tennis bracelets , however, a completely invisible clasp is more suitable.
For coarser and rougher pieces of jewelry, the clasp of the piece of jewelry should also be more conspicuous and present in order to create a harmonious overall picture.
