Conch Pearl
A special rarity of nature.

overview
- Color: The rare conch pearl is usually 3-12 mm in size and exists in many color shades. The conch pearl is available in shades ranging from white to beige, salmon to pink and reddish brown. The most popular conch pearl is a strong pink (also called a pink pearl).
- Mineral Group: Although its name suggests it, the conch pearl is not a pearl. It is composed of calcium-like aggregates rather than nacre.
- Shape: Conch pearls are usually very small (approx. 3 - 12 mm) and come in baroque or oval shape.
- Special feature: Only about every 10,000th conch shell produces a pearl. And even of these, only 20% at most are of a quality suitable for jewelry. So far there is no way to artificially breed or cultivate the conch pearl. This is why it is a particular rarity and is extremely valued by enthusiasts. Due to this rarity and uniqueness, jewelry with a conch pearl is very valuable and popular.
Quality factors
Color
The conch pearl is captivating due to its enchanting coloring - from white to beige, brown, salmon and pink. A salmon to orange pink is the most popular color variant. The only thing you should not wear is in sunlight for too long. The rays can cause the color of the pearl to fade over time.
shine
Conch pearls, the most sought after for jewelry, have a silky flame-like sheen that gives them a fascinating color pattern.
form
Conch pearls are usually quite small - pearls larger than 3 mm are rare. However, they can be up to 12 mm in size. Of course, the value of a conch pearl increases with its size.
surface quality
The surface of the porcelain-like pearl often has a kind of "flame structure", a silky, undulating pattern that gives it a fascinating play of colors. With such a shimmering conch pearl, every piece of jewelry becomes an enchanting eye-catcher.

Formation of the Conch Pearl
The conch pearl is a natural sea pearl that is formed in the snail with the Latin name strombus gigas . The so-called giant snail is a Caribbean species of snail. It can grow up to 30 cm long and has a life expectancy of around 20 years. The meat of the snail is considered a Caribbean delicacy. Only very few of the snails form a conch pearl inside themselves. This is formed when a foreign body penetrates the inside of the shell and is covered with a pearl sac. The conch pearl, however, is not made of mother-of-pearl, but of a calcium-like compaction.
Special Conch Pearls
One of the most famous conch pearls is the Queen Mary Conch Pearl Brooch. It is an excellent example of jewelry from the "Belle Epoch" period. The brooch is named after its famous former owner, Queen Victoria.
Special occasions
The conch pearl is neither considered a wedding anniversary nor a birthday gemstone.

occurrence of conch pearls
Conch pearls are found in the Caribbean, Florida, Bahamas and the West Indies.
