In the 1970s, the diamond imitation zirconia had its final breakthrough and commercial production began. Research into its production had already been carried out in France in the 1960s, but at that time it was only possible to produce very small crystals. The technology was later perfected in Moscow.
Zirconia is now a very common substitute for diamonds. However, it cannot even come close to their beauty and special aura.
