rock crystal

overview
- Naming: The name crystal is derived from the Greek word for ice, krystallos. The name was inspired by the widespread belief that rock crystal was frozen forever. The Greek writer Pliny believed that the flawlessly beautiful gemstone was formed so high up in the cold that nothing could melt it.
- Mineral group: Rock crystal belongs to the group of quartz, more precisely it is quartz in its purest and most transparent form.
- Color: Rock crystal is a white variety of quartz. Due to its color, it is often called "white quartz."
- Cut: Aquamarine is particularly popular in the emerald cut because it highlights the deep blue.
- Special feature: Rock crystal occurs in groups of several rods pointing in different directions, as well as in prism form and in the shape of grains or hexagonal crystals. In general, no two rock crystals are the same, but are unique.
