Quality factors
Color
A reddish color is the most sought-after, followed closely on the popularity scale by a warm gold tone.
With the help of artificial treatment, the color of amber can be changed to a light yellow-green.
carat
The carat number indicates the weight of a gemstone. The heavier a gemstone, the more valuable it is. However, amber is naturally a very light gemstone. One carat (ct) weighs approximately 0.2 grams.
purity
Amber with interesting inclusions of insects or other fossils is more valuable than stones without inclusions.
cut
Amber is often processed into cabochon cuts or pearls.

Special Amber
High transparency indicates good quality, but there is an exception to this rule. If the amber contains interesting inclusions of plants or insects, its price increases significantly.
Specimens containing fossils are invaluable to scientists as they provide insight into a time long past.
The purity of amber can be improved by gently heating it. However, this can cause small cracks and fissures.
The cut is usually based on the raw form of the gemstone - only the surface is smoothed. Amber is also cut into cabochons or spheres and, in very rare cases, faceted.
Special Amber
In 1716, the Prussian King Frederick I gave the Russian Tsar Peter the Great an Amber Room. The room was decorated with wall paneling and furniture made of amber. A total of 6 tons of amber were used.
Special occasions
birthstone
Amber is not assigned to a month. However, it is associated with the zodiac sign of Taurus.

occurrence of amber
One of the oldest amber sites is Myanmar. However, there are many other important sites in Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Poland and Russia.
