Kimberley Prozess

The Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS)

The results of the process were incorporated into the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS), which is designed to control the production and trade of rough diamonds. In 2002, rules were laid down that diamond-producing countries must adhere to. One year later, the system came into force and the participating countries began implementing the rules.

The Kimberley Process currently has 54 members representing 81 countries. The European Union is the only member. The participants account for 99.8% of the global diamond trade.

The World Diamond Council, which represents the international diamond industry, also participates in the Kimberley Process.
