Garnet Jewelry in History
Red garnet jewelry already existed in ancient times:
The Egyptian pharaohs adorned themselves with necklaces set with garnet gemstones. These pieces of jewelry were also placed in their graves after their death.
The Romans used engraved signet rings with garnet gemstones to seal important documents.
Garnet jewellery reached its peak in the early Middle Ages. Disc brooches , which were very popular pieces of jewellery at the time, were set with numerous small red gemstones in a cloisonné setting.
The Bohemian garnet, a blood-red variant of the gemstone, is very well-known and popular and sparkles in a deep dark red. Bohemian garnet jewelry, which was particularly popular in the 18th and 19th centuries, is characterized by a large number of very small gemstones that are set close together.
Even today, red is the typical color for garnet jewelry, but there are also beautiful pieces with green, orange or yellow gemstones.
