Bracelets

During the Middle Ages, arm jewellery was less common and not given much importance. This changed with the start of the Renaissance, during which people in northern Europe wore large gold bangles over their clothes. In southern Europe, however, bracelets made of gold or pearls were common.

In the 16th century, imaginative bracelets with gemstones and enamel paintings became popular.

During the 17th century, the fashion of wearing several thin bracelets on the wrist emerged.

The 19th century produced extraordinarily magnificent arm jewellery, decorated with cameos and medallions using ivory and coral.
In the 20th century, mass production brought a wide variety of styles and variations of bracelets onto the market.
