The polish should be as fine as possible so that no marks can be seen on the surface and the edges and corners of each facet are precisely defined. In most cases, polishing marks are invisible to the naked eye, but can have an effect on the brilliance. The levels that characterize the quality of the polish range from weak to medium, good and very good to excellent.

All our diamonds come with a certificate from an independent gemological testing institute GIA, IGI or HRD, which guarantees the authenticity of the diamond and contains a complete description of the quality. For more information, see GIA .

Symmetry describes the shape of the diamond and the arrangement of its facets, which should be as even as possible. The quality of the symmetry influences the brilliance of a diamond and ranges from weak to medium, good and very good to excellent.

Fluorescence is the visible light that some diamonds emit when exposed to ultraviolet (UV) rays. About a third of all diamonds exhibit fluorescence to a greater or lesser extent, but only 10% of these gemstones have their appearance affected by this (noted on the certificate as medium, strong or very strong fluorescence). More than 95% of diamonds with fluorescence appear blue under UV light, and very rarely do other colors such as yellow or white appear. Blue is the complementary color to yellow, the most common color in diamonds. Diamonds that have medium to strong fluorescence are often preferred, as this makes the tinted colors appear whiter. The strength of fluorescence does not have a major impact on the appearance of the vast majority of diamonds, and the majority of gemstones do not have their sparkle or brilliance affected. In rare cases, diamonds with very strong fluorescence can appear cloudy or oily; However, this only applies to less than 0.2% of fluorescent diamonds.

Carat is the unit of weight for a diamond. One carat is equal to 0.2 grams. The diameter of a one-carat diamond is 6.4 mm, and that of a two-carat diamond is 8.1 mm. The two-carat diamond does not appear twice as large as the one-carat diamond, even though it weighs twice as much. In addition to the carat number, the size of a diamond is also determined by the diamond's dimensions in millimeters, its proportions and the cut.

The table percentage of a diamond gives the ratio between the table (the central top facet) of the diamond and the total diameter (table:width). Ideal table proportions bring out the brilliance of a diamond to its best effect.

The depth of a diamond gives the ratio between its height and diameter (height:width). Larger or smaller proportions impair the brilliance of the diamond by preventing the light from reflecting perfectly.

Diamonds come in all colors, with yellowish tones and shades accounting for over 90%. The intensity ranges from almost colorless to yellow. Basically, the more colorless ("whiter") a diamond is, the more valuable it is, as light can penetrate it effortlessly and is reflected optimally. A color grading scale ranging from D to Z helps with classification, with D being the best possible color level for the whitest diamond. With us you will only find diamonds in the color levels D to M. Our diamonds therefore have no or only a very slight yellowish tint.

A diamond is a unique natural product and there are rarely diamonds that are "flawless", i.e. absolutely pure. The clarity of a diamond is determined by the number, size, brightness and position of its foreign bodies or crystal defects, the so-called inclusions. The smaller and the fewer these are, the more valuable and pure the diamond. The internationally valid grading scale ranges from FL/IF (flawless) to P3 (coarse inclusions visible to the naked eye). Most inclusions are so small that they can only be seen under 10x magnification and therefore do not affect the beauty of the diamond. We have diamonds with clarity levels FL to SI2. With diamonds with clarity levels FL to VVS2, no inclusions are visible to the naked eye, with VS1 or VS2 only under the microscope.

Cut is the type and shape of diamonds created by polishing them to enhance their brilliance and bring out the fire and sparkle inherent in the stone. As such, the cut of a diamond is the most important criterion for assessing its value and beauty. We recommend that you reserve a large part of your budget for the best possible cut, as the radiance of a diamond is determined primarily by its brilliance and fire. That is why we recommend that you choose a diamond with a cut grade of Very Good or better.

At RENÉSIM you can choose from a large number of diamonds. To give you the flexibility to search according to your budget and wishes, we offer both untreated and treated diamonds. Untreated means that natural diamonds have not been treated in any way to improve their color or clarity. These qualities are rare and usually more expensive. Most natural diamonds are rich in inclusions or have a color that is too light or too dark. They are treated to achieve an intense color and high clarity. Most practices are common practice and perfectly acceptable as long as they are disclosed - as is the case with us.Treatment
