Quality factors
purity
Alexandrites usually have inclusions that are visible to the eye. This is why particularly pure gemstones are very valuable and sought after.
carat
Carat indicates the weight of a gemstone and corresponds to 0.2 grams. The more carats, the more valuable the alexandrite.
Color
The color is particularly important for alexandrite. The more intense the color change, the higher the value.
cut
The cut is responsible for the shine of the gemstone and increases the value of the alexandrite the better it is executed.

Emerald by day, ruby by night
The most fascinating property of the alexandrite gemstone is its so-called iridescence. In daylight, alexandrite appears green, but in candlelight or artificial light it changes its color to a soft to strong red. Due to this impressive pleochroism, alexandrite is called "emerald by day and ruby by night".

Sri Lanka discovered.

Ural
These deposits are almost exhausted. However, the Russian stones are particularly popular due to their rich color; they vary from intense emerald green to a strong purple red.
Sri Lanka and Tanzania
Sri Lanka and Tanzania are also important deposits today, but show a less intense play of colors. The particularly rare alexandrite cat's eyes are also found there - these are alexandrite gemstones with a linear glow on the surface that is reminiscent of the slit-like pupil of a cat.
